We are committed to empowering kids
and serving the community.
All of our service projects must be kid-led. This means that kid must have hands-on involvement. All of our service projects must also be service-learning projects. This means that there must be an education component.
With this approach is that kids receive a boost in confidence from completing a meaningful task during which they were given the freedom to infuse their own creativity, skills, and personality. The kids learn about a problem that impacts their community, resulting in a boost in empathy and compassion. In addition, the community receives support.
Our 2022 Service Projects
Valentine’s Day Packages for Veterans. On Monday, January 17th, we held our first service-learning project of 2022. We chose January 17th because it was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the National Day of Service. Thirty children and young adults ages 5-21 gathered at the Alive Center in Naperville, IL and made window clings and Valentines’ Day cards to surprise the 89 veterans residing at the LaSalle Veterans Home. We delivered the gifts just in time to be delivered for Valentine’s Day. Our impact: 30 children served and 89 veterans supported |

Food Drive. For our May 14th Food Drive, we started off by giving kids and young adults brown paper grocery bags. Kids decorated the ages with messages related to food-insecurity and food-related pictures. We held the food drive at the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry. A staff member gave a presentation about food insecurity in the Aurora area. From donations from the community, we collected enough food to fill 50+ grocery bags. The bags were donated to the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry as well as Plainfield-based Bags of Hope. Our impact: 12 children served and 50+ bags of foods delivered to 2 organizations |
